8yr old picky eater

I feel like I've failed not only myself but my child. He's almost 8 hasn't touched any fruit or veggies since he was 2.
His main meals are Banana bread or hot chip's and when out it's nuggets and chip's.

His only dairy intake is yoghurt and milk.

The rest is mostly salty snacks.

He takes muli vitamins everyday. I've tried so hard to get him to try anything really and it turns into a full mode melt down.

I don't know what else to do.

Get professional help. That's a sensory/food issue.

Contact a paediatrician and go from there. It sounds like it could be sensory - you haven’t failed him :)

ARFID -https://www.eatingdisorders.org.au/eating-disorders-a-z/arfid/#:~:text=a....

If the above sounds like your son, he needs help. See a paed. ARFID can go hand in hand with autism and sensory processing disorders.

Absolutely take all the advice above and try all the strategies; I just jumped on here to say: you are 100% describing me and my eating as a kid. I did start trying new things in my mid 20's but I still won't eat a vegetable. I'm now 38 & have always been stupidly healthy (and only slightly chubby) so don't think you've failed & are ruining his future life or health.
I once lived on nothing but cornflakes and hot chips for 6 weeks in hospital. The dietician shrugged & said "well, it's not the worst...."

This sounds like my son he has asd, spd and add he only just recently started to try new foods at 13. We tried everything to get him to eat more healthy but nothing worked until he decided he would. We give him vitamins and had blood tests done he is getting what he needs from them thankfully so his paediatrician told us to keep giving them to him. It's hard when they just flat out refuse to eat what you know they should. just keep offering things to him to try and eventually he will. You got this and it will get better in time speak to a dietician for advice.
