I don’t have a lot of time on my hands, work full time, single mum of two kids. We eat fairly well but I’d love to lose some weight and feel more myself. Mums who have lost weight whilst walking - how did you do it? Did you reach a certain step count per day?

20% exercise and 80% food. You can walk all you want but nothing is going to change if you are not eating right foods and right portions. 10k per day min steps.
Exactly. I lost more weight being sedentary and cutting calories than i ever did by exercise alone. Not saving sedentary is better. Its not. Its just that exercise does not work if ppl just keep over eating.
Its not a stroll its a 10km twice a day. Plys healthy eating plus some boxing classes.
For context Ive been running training, 4 to 5 kms 5 days a week for 5 weeks and have lost zero kgs. My body has changed very slightly. My fitness has changed a lot.
When I calorie count only, I lose kgs every week and lose 5kgs in a month.
Muscle is heavier. Sounds like you've gained muscle with that anount of high intensity work out. Measure yourself in cm's instead of by weight for a while.
Muscle isn’t heavier. It just takes up less room. But 1kg of muscle weighs the same as 1kg of fat
I just googled that and yep its the latest news that they weigh the same. The only difference is density. In recent times it was always taught that muscle is heavier.
Yes I think tnats what they mean by 'heavier'. If you had the same size of fat or muscle, the muscle would be heavier.
However I definitely havent changed that much and do have fat to lose so I have considered thats whats happening but Im not sold.
Im going to try to eat well, drink water and keep training and then see.
It’s not so much about the walking it’s about the food. Walking will help a bit but focus on what you are eating and cut down. My fitness pal is great for calorie counting. Try stick to steamed veggies with chicken or salmon. Cut out any sugar etc. try walk around the block or Similar after dinner. Even 15-20 mins make it a routine, dinner and quick walk around the block or 2. Set a path and do it every night but focus on what you eat.
I lost 28kilos by eating between 0 - 20g a day of carbs, no sugar, upping protein and good fats and oils and cutting right down on portions. So essentially ketogenic. I only do pilates and yoga for 20 mins 7 days a week and i lost that 28 kilos in 9 months.
Whilst losing weight is definitely a benefit of walking, did you know it’s also the most effective for improving heart health ?
If for no other reason, then start walking and see how you go!! Make it fun, push the kids in a pram or take a bike if they’re the right age and stage.
If you don’t lose weight… then at least your setting an awesome example for your kid’s and improving all aspects of your health.
If you do lose weight, then that’s amazing !!
Yes it’s about calories to lose weight but I find that walking keeps me motivated, clears my head and that the more I exercise the less inclined I am to snack. I go for about an hours walk a day
