Weight loss surgery

I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea about whether or not bariatric (weight loss) surgery is ever covered under medicare or public hospital system? I have been trying for years to lose weight, never seems to be any more than 10kgs. I have dieted, joined gyms, had personal trainers. Have birthed 4 children and every admission labelled me as obese/ high bmi.
I just want to lose the weight and feel good again.
Private health insurance isn't a financially available option.
Thanks

My husband had this done under medicare. Wait list was 2 yrs long and each appointment he stil paid a small medicare gap of $20. All up he paid $2000. It also included a mandatory dietitian.
The rest was covered by medicare.

It's not a permanent fix tho. If you don't fix the psychological reasons about why you overeat then you will just put the weight back on. Having 4 children doesn't make you fat.

Check firstly for hormonal, pituitary, odema, thyroid and pcos issues if you haven't done so already. If physically its all clear, then over eating is likely the main issue .

The surgery and counciling about how to control your food urges go hand in hand for a successful outcome. Most people gain all the weight back and more within 5 years if there is no self control

It is, there are requirements you need to meet and the wait time can be long - it depends where you are to the timeline. I saw in a group I'm in that a person is finally getting their surgery after a wait of 8 years on the public system.

I went via public after waiting the 12 months of public health insurance. After my initial consultation, I was in within 4 weeks... It would have been 2 weeks but I was plans on the weekend I would have been in hospital, and you need 2 weeks pre op diet.
