Hysterectomy

Hysterectomy

So I will keep this short. I'm trying to find a Dr in the Newcastle area that will perform a hysterectomy on me. I'm wondering if anyone on here is able to provide assistance, guidance or is one that will actually listen to me and not make me jump through the government/medical establishment hoops?

Long story short - Over 40, had all my kids, family history, medical reasons and more. YET the Dr's want to either put the bar in my arm, give me the injection, or burn my uterus before they will even consider it... And I refuse to do any of them due to history... Keep being told that I may want more kids too. Considering husband has had the snip, I can without a shadow of doubt say I do not want more kids. Plus my body couldn't take having anymore kids even if I did want more... Which I don't :)

I've had nothing but issues with my periods since I first got them at 11. I believe I should be able to make the decision on my body, seeing I'm going to be paying for it. This is not something that I just woke up decided. Add to it they are now affecting my health I'm at a loss as to why no Dr will listen to me.

Is anyone able to offer any advice etc that might assist me to find a Dr to help me??

I know its a long shot.

Unfortunately there are good medical reasons not to just take your uterus...

There are ongoing implications.. your endocrine system won’t settle it self solely on the removal of your uterus.. I’m sorry that you feel like your not heard. And that your menstrual cycle is not comfortable.

Whilst I understand your reasoning for wanting to have the surgery, please start researching the side effects as these can far out way having a hysterectomy.
Prolapse - basically the organs in the lower pelvic area pretty much collapse, even after surgery to fix prolapse it can still continue to happen as you continue to age.
Bladder control - possibly a side effect of the prolapse but your bladder control will change.... drastically. Incontinence! Yep not fun, its not just an “old persons” problem

No surgeon I know would do this.
Have a look at ablation, that will stop the periods, but leave your uterus in place, or removal of ovaries, instead of a full hysterectomy - as a full hysterectomy also removes the cervix.
All have major side effects, some consequences.
However... I’d suggest a chat with your doctor and get a referral to Dr Chongs practice. I’ve heard she’s wonderful with women’s health.

Are you looking publicly or privately? I’ve been offered one in my 20s (VIC) because I requested one vis private sector.

I would just keep pushing the point. Im in a similar situation. Im nearly 40 but have not had children. But also dont intend on having any. I suffer from endometriosis and every month is a painful battle. The drs keep trying to convince me to get a marina or iud, however i am choosing quality of life. I am in vic so not sure if that makes a difference, but i am now on the waitlist for a hystetectomy. Good luck because i know how frustrating it is.

I agree with not wanting the hormonal contraceptives! They are horrible. I had an ablation for heavy periods and it’s been terrific. No periods since I’ve had it done. I had to take medication every time I had my period to lighten it and was afraid to go to work. The ablation has been amazing. I’m sure if you had that done and you were still having dramas they would probably go to the next step. They seem to like checking off every less invasive option.
