Constantly sick

Hi mums,

Please bare with me it’s abit of a strange question.

I’m curious to know if anybody else or anyone in there family is just constantly sick particularly after having the flu shot ?

For the past 12 months roughly since having the flu shot iv been sick with horrendous head colds that last about 2 weeks and knock me flat. They vary from starting of really bad then easing of at about a week and a half to then the next one starting of not so bad but once I hit the week mark I’m fighting temps and constant coughing fits that last an hour and a half and end in vomiting.
Every two months this has been happening, at its worse I had two colds in one month with roughly a week between them where I was fine. I’m currently sick with one the worse ones iv had.

If this has happened to you or anyone you know was there something more to it or what did you do or take to make it stop? I can’t keep living like this it’s driving me crazy. Could it be a reaction to the flu shot as that’s the only thing I can think of that changed around the time it all started?

*im also a relatively healthy person and quiet physically active every day*

Are you sure it’s a cold? What does your GP think? Have you had your sinuses checked, allergies checked etc?
Most people I know are catching less colds and viruses at the moment due to the covid protocols.
It doesn’t sound like a reaction to the vaccine as you would t keep reacting to it 12months later.

The flu shot would not be causing this. The timing is just a coincidence. Cold and flu are totally different.

I would go to your GP for a full check up but also consider any changes to your routine and life - childcare/school for children, new job for you/partner?

I was having issues pre-covid. As soon as people started practicing better hygiene & were forced to keep sick kids home from kindy/school I stopped getting sick. I think it was just that I couldn't get over one cold before another hit & my immune system couldn't restore itself. One sniffle from the kids & I'd cry because I knew I was getting it too. It's exhausting & horrible when you're usually healthy!

I did see my doctor though. It's important to get it checked out.

Are you letting yourself actually rest up and get 100% better before heading out again/getting back into activities? Your immune system is very suppressed right now and it sounds like you aren’t allowing yourself proper time to get better.

Have you had your bloods checked for vitamin or iron deficiencies?

The flu shot wouldn’t be the cause of this.

Get your bloods done !
Blood tests will help you find answers regardless of the cause

That doesn't sound like colds. I'd be getting tests and chest X-rays. Were you COVID tested when you first got sick, for instance?

The flu shot doesn’t contain any live virus so it’s not that specifically however it could have triggered a dormant immune deficiency. I was healthy until I got the actual flu once, and this triggered a bunch of stuff - I found I have genetic issues that mean I don’t process certain vitamins from natural sources and have to have synthetic forms (eg vitamin tablets), among other things and I was constantly sick for years before discovering this. I’d start with a full blood panel with your gp.
