Hey mummas! I’m so devastated that my 9 year old daughter appears to be starting puberty - she is so young! I’d love any feedback from other families in this situation - any tips to help her? She has read Girl Stuff, and we talk often about breasts, hair, sweat, periods etc, but I am still worried for her. Also, can anyone recommend a good ‘period pack’ for someone so young? Just in case? Thank you so much xx

I would just go straight to modibodi or similar. So much easier to manage for adults let alone young girls.
I would discuss period items. She may want to use pads to begin with and washable ones are a fantastic idea. I have a super heavy flow and i use washable ones and have never leaked. She may want modibodi or other period underwear. Otherwise Libra does a ‘teens’ pack (other companies may do something similar).
I don’t think you can truely be ready for this (as a mum or a young woman) i hope she is ok though. I started menstruating at 10, so i understand how scary this can seem to a young person.
9 is actually pretty common these days. I would get her some modibodis and also a range of different items for her to try x
9 is pretty normal for starting - I know it's confronting when you notice your daughter growing up but try not to show her you're devastated. She needs support and to know what to expect. Periods are possible at this age but unlikely to start for a while yet. Personally I had breast buds and pubic hair from around the same age but no period until I was 12 and halfway through Grade 7. I had friends who had less hair and breast development who started their periods in Grade 5.
My 9 year old is getting breast buds, BO and has some pubic hair. We're probably going to look into period undies for now. She's very uncomfortable about anything to do with her genitals so we aren't pushing her on learning about anything else (tampons etc).
Invest in some
Modibody ‘red’ underwear for her. Take the stress out of getting it. I use modi body and they’re so great.
