My son’s older cousin visited about 6 months ago & after they left he had learnt how to put YouTube on. It was a problem from day dot. I put the parental lock in which helps but he asks for it as soon as we walk in the door & there is often tears when it has to go off.
He is getting better. We set the timer on the oven & I’ve clearly spelt out when he can have it. I have explained that it is a privilege, not a right & that some kids his age don’t watch it at all. I have threatened to just say no altogether at times but in all honesty it is good to use as incentive for positive behaviour & it’s handy when his siblings need a sleep etc.
I would feel better if he was watching something at least a little educational, as some of it is just weird! He likes motorbikes, monster trucks, RC cars etc. I will search for him but often the next video comes on & he’s watching mindless stuff.
What do your 5 yr olds watch? He will watch a bit of Blippi but it can be a bit babyish & also drives me a little bonkers. We have been doing some drawing tutorials as he is right into drawing..
