Sleeping in a new environment

Sleeping in a new environment

My 18 month fell out of the cot on Sunday so we immediately transferred him over to his brother's bunk bed. Only thing is he still wakes at around 4am alot and I'm really worried about my eldest having his sleep effected. He goes to bed at around 7.30 and I think he's going through a big leap so that hasn't helped his night sleeps. At the moment it's ok cuz my eldest can sleep in as it's school holidays and we have plenty of time to sort it out.... I'm just really worried that if it isn't sorted out by the time school starts that my eldest will struggle with tiredness. What do I do? The cot cannot be lowered and we've already dismantled it so the bunk is our only option at the moment. Should we maybe put him to bed later? I'm a bit lost and I don't have any back-up plans

What about a mattress on the floorin your room or somewhere else away from his brother? Or just see how it unfolds for now given we're right at the start of school holidays so you can make adjustments over the next few weeks if he doesn't settle.

I would personally see how it unfolds over the next week. And maybe just teach your 18mo to wake at 4am and come into your bed. Or to get out of bed and come get you/you can quietly take him back to his bed. So they aren't waking up older brother that way.
As important as it is that your older boy isn't disrupted, I think whilst you've got the time (school holidays) you should start off a really good start with your younger one in a big bed so that he has clear boundaries around big boy bed and he knows what his expectations are. I feel like switching him around to too many different things trying to accommodate for the older one old just make his sleep even shitter.

Yes put him to bed later when you go to bed that way he will
Sleep in longer. this is what I would do.

7.30 to me is so early for bed. I’ve never put mine to bed that early. I usually aim for 8.30 and school holidays 10-11 as they sleep in. Everyone is different with bed times. I would put him to bed when you go to bed, then he may sleep in longer that is too early to be awake. Maybe cut out any day sleeps he may have so he sleeps all night.?
