How about keep a budget and cut out things you Dont really need. All those miscellaneous items do add up.

I think you need to ask how come you cant get ahead? Where does your money go? You need to monitor it and find out.

Also this is a stressful time of year. I am ahead I do well on my budget, took my kids to Europe last Christmas and I'm this week starting to feel the Christmas finance anxiety. Such a busy time and feels like just so many different things to do and buy. Lists are good. And also remember you dont HAVE to do it all, or any of it.

Mindfulness with money. I know it sucks, it’s boring, it’s not a magic bullet. But when im thinking and monitoring ALL my spending I spend far less.

Also making sure that I have a budget and not deviating from that. We only budgeted eating out 4 times this month, then that’s all we eat out. Sometimes that means saying no to invites.

It’s hard. It does help when I keep the play money on a separate account to Bill money and savings too.

Do you keep a financial diary

Do you have a budget?

Back in the day i was living on roughly $1650.00 a fortnight including child support for my children.

I paid

$700 rent
$380 car payment
$ 50.00 electricity
$ 10.00 water
$120.00 child care
$ 50.00 internet phone
$ 50.00 insurance car/contents
$ 50.00 fuel
Put aside $10 for phone credit
Put aside $50 in savings for car services or other expenses (like Christmas)
$150 on food per fortnight
and spent $30 on one take away meal a fortnight 3 kids one in nappies and i survived.

The only way this worked was by keeping myself accountable.

Do i need this or do i want this.

Have i looked to see if i can get this cheaper. I shopped at op shops, graciously accepted second hand kids clothes. Didnt go on nights out unless it was at someone else expense.

Once my car was paid off life was so much easier.

I didnt go out and get a newer better car and give myself another car payment. I didnt go out and frivolously spend money because i now had extra.

Write down everything you need to pay for each week and work on a budget. Budgets are life savers and hold you accountable.
