Constant anxiety about losing job

Constant anxiety about losing job

I was wondering if anybody else has constant anxiety about losing their job? Like they are so sure most days that their boss is writing everything down and preparing a case to fire them.

I work in a professional field, and a lot of decisions are up to discretion and case by case judgements. I constantly think that I’m getting it wrong.

My thoughts wander to losing my job, never being able to find another one and losing my home.

I’ve been in trouble before, and have been on an action plan which I worked through. I have been diagnosed with anxiety and PTSD.

How do you work this through in your mind? The anxiety about this is taking over my life. I think about to all the time, at home, at work even in my dreams.

I have been to a psychologist previously for 3.5 years. Just recently stopped. I’m not looking for recommendations of professional support, mainly just personal experiences to let me know that I’m not alone xx

Thanks sisterhood xo

I have not had this particular fear but I have had a fear of dying where it was all I could think about, who would look after my kids and how could they cope without me. I got past it by thinking rational, I put a plan in place and worked out who I wanted to have my kids if I died, taught my eldest at the time how to use the phone and befriended the neighbours. Having done all that I was a lot less anxious and eventually got to the point where I don't think about it anymore. I think you should try the same, imagine you really did lose your job, what would happen? You could get a payout or a lump sum, work out how much that is combined with any savings. Go onto Centrelink estimator and work out how much you would receive if you lost your job, then you can work out how long you can survive without a job. Make a list of furniture and items you could sell and how much they are worth. Then look at your resume, could it be updated? Could you look at any small courses etc to make you more employable? Update any skills? Preparation and planning kills anxiety, don't let it beat you.
