Child support over payment / extraordinary payment = confused!

So long story short....

I'm the paying parent for my teenage son. He has started full time employment is recent months, resulting in child support being cancelled out as he is earning well above the minimum wage.
As I didn't see I had email communication from child support notifying me of these changes I kept paying child support weekly. I contact child support and find they have already sent all of these payments through to the other parent. So I've chosen to "gift" it to the other parent to avoid any arguments. I was told by child support they'd send through communication to reflect the overpayment then further communication saying I'd gifted the overpayment. I haven't received the communication in regards to the gifting of said payment.

Does the receiving parent have to agree to accept this overpayment as a gift? Is this considered an "extraordinary" payment?

Child support did explain what is meant by an extraordinary payment - once I got off the phone think it may have gone straight over my head!

Extraordinary payment is basically a bonus payment.
So you have you standard amount you are supposed to pay and if you pay anything over that amount it’s classed as an extra ordinary payment.
The letters from child support can take a few weeks sometimes as their system is very slow. They update around 7th of every month so if you haven’t heard anything by then regarding letters ect then ring them up again.
No receiving parent doesn’t need to agree to the payments either.
