Do a call around to places like your neighbourhood centre and start there. I don’t know about your local area but mine have a volunteer service at the local mental health ward (adults) and the hospital run a day program for people interested in being a support worker once you’ve done that you just go in and spend time with people on the ward and chat with them and do arts and craft or whatever. I found that rewarding. I did need to provide proof of immunity for Hepatitis and a few other things though but don’t recall which ones. I didn’t have immunity for something so needed injections at my own expense at the GP before I could start volunteering.

Are you close to water? Marine rescue, lifesavers.
For more greeny type things there’s landcare, cleanup Australia.
For elderly there’s social events, hospital organisations and meet n greet days, social In the home type programs.
It depends on who you want to help.
I have friends that do community landcare because they feel it benefits everyone even if you don’t notice it being done.
Have you got help with looking after your kids? Because most areas have a homeless charity that does soup and dinner at nights and weekends.
School canteens run on volunteers, and schools are usually in need of reading helpers.
Theres also one here that collects clothes and sells or gives them to people in need.
My local womens centre just put out a call for volunteers to run a weekly coffee and chat morning and they also have volunteers run workshops like art, crafternoon, gardening, potting plants.
If you find any grass roots kind of local organisation I bet they would jump at your offer of some free manpower.
