Shoes

Hi! I have an 11 year old boy who wears mens sized shoes. My problem with that is he is sooooo rough on shoes! Are there any mens shoes out there that can withstand an 11 year old who can trash a pair of shoes in 2 days? When he was in kids shoes, I tried expensive ones, but he still managed to trash those. I don’t mind paying for more expensive shoes if they’ll last! Atm he goes through about 3 pairs a term. He mostly wears out the fronts of the shoes, but lately its been the whole shoe. Help! Its doing my head in & stocks of shoes are very low everywhere now.

I feel your pain. My 8yo is in men's shoes 😳. Skate shoes seem to work the best for us. Still pain in the ass!!!

I have found Asics (runners) to work for my son.

My son was like this with shoes at this age. Have you had his feet checked? My son has feet that turn inwards slightly and that’s why he was kicking his toes out and killing his shoes.
Now at 16 the best I’ve found is steel cap workboots cause he can kick the toes in and ruin the material but the shoes themselves tend to last longer.

This is why I refused to buy expensive shoes while my boys were in primary school. If I’m going to spend $100+ on a pair of shoes I want them to last at least a year. I don’t even pay that amount for a pair of shoes for myself, and will get 6-12 months + wear out of them depending on how often I wear them. Perhaps take him to see a podiatrist to check there is nothing in the way he walks/runs that would be causing the wear and tear. If there is nothing of concern, put the responsibility back on him to look after his shoes. Does he earn pocket money, or do chores around the house? Make him put a small percentage of his pocket money each week into a special money box, then when he needs a new pair of shoes that money contributes towards the cost. Or he needs to do x amount of extra jobs to ‘earn’ a new pair of shoes. When he can show he is responsible and can look after his shoes he gets a reward after 3 months, 6 months. Then once he goes past the 6-9 months get him properly fitted and buy a more expensive pair. Keep getting him to save and if he can get to 9-12 months without needing new shoes (other than if he outgrows them) let him spend the money he’s saved on something special he wants and perhaps you could contribute extra towards it. At 11 he is more than old enough to understand that shoes cost money and you can’t afford to keep buying new ones just because he doesn’t look after them.
