Our 20mth old has gone from waking once a night to now four to five times a night and we are wanting suggestions on how to help to sleep better. Some of the cries is just him losing his dummy.

I feel as though all of my kids have gone through a sleep regression around this age and you just have to ride it out. Could also be teeth and ensure they’re not to hot/cold. My just turned 2 year old is sleeping through more often than not now but the couple of months leading up to his birthday it was a different story. If they’re losing their dummy could you put it on a dummy chain or get a comforter that a dummy can be attached to? Alternatively you could faze out the dummy so they’re not relying on that to soothe themselves back to sleep
I think we have this idea that they will finally sleep through around 2, the age is actually more like 7.
I agree. Both of my children woke several times a night until approx 7 years.
I tried everything! Cutting the dummy out, keeping them busy to tire them out, essential oils in the air, body creams and bath gels promoted to "aid a better sleep" more bedding, less bedding.
For my two, they didn't like dead quiet, it was like they needed assurance that we were still close by, dull light, a little tv noise.
For the poster - at a young age, I'd be thinking of scrapping the dummy so they can learn to self sooth (it's painful but it won't happen overnight) don't turn lights on, don't talk, just cover bay back up and a few pats on the bum, or a soft back rub worked for us to get baby back to sleep. Good luck.
