Before all of this Covid stuff happened, I booked an interstate holiday for next month with the kids and husband. We live in SA.
It was looking all ok there for a bit, but then this second wave hit in Victoria and all the states freaked out.
If I cancel our flights, we'll loose all our money, and I don't think we'll be able to postpone our flights because we're booked with Virgin and they're not being helpful in the slightest.
I'm not sure where we stand with our AirBnB either.
If we go, there's still a chance things will change and we might end up quarantining when we arrive (our holiday is only for 1 week) and we'll definitely have to quarantine when we get home. This is a given as it's been announced by SA Police. This means 3 weeks annual leave for hubby and I and now 3 weeks off school for my two boys.
My question is, would you still go and hopefully still have a good time? Or would you forfeit the money you've spent on flights and accomadation and use the spending money you'd been saving to go next year?
I really don't know what to do and hubby is being useless and refuses to acknowledge the situation. Ive tried to talk it over with friends and family and no one will give me their honest opinion or their “well if it was me, I'd..... ”
HELP! Haha!
Would you still go on the holiday?

Personally, I'd cancel.
Aside from the obvious health risks. Holidays are meant to be relaxing and stress free. I honestly can't see a holiday in this current climate being enjoyable or even salvageable.
I mean, the atmosphere is tense just about everywhere you go lately and as someone who works in the hotel/hospitality business, I can say that those who are travelling for leisure aren't held in real high regard by the general public at the moment (I'm not saying that's right, just saying how it is).
There's also the fact that the hospitality industry has been hit really hard, so a lot of places you'd typically visit during a holiday such as restaurants, cafes, local attractions etc may not be fully operational or even open for business at all.
Sorry to be a bit of a Negative Nancy I just think attempting an interstate holiday at this stage is a little too optimistic.
Depends which state ur going to. Maybe u could cancel the interstate and use the spending money to do a road trip or something in ur own state and help support it financially!
I wouldn't go.
You just don't know when cases will start popping up around you and your holiday destination. Or on your flight there.
I know everyone is being very careful and hygienic ect ect ect but its still not fool proof when we all know just HOW contagious it is.
Its honestly just not worth the risk not even the slightest really.
(I've been feeling really angry about all my locals heading down to melb a few weeks ago or going off on holidays when we certainly weren't safe corona wise even though restrictions were lifted and life was going back to normal.... ive always felt like its a matter of time.
So long as corona cases are in Australia. So long as cases are anywhere in other countries where Australians visit. So long as people keep travelling... it is possible. Its not going to go away. )
Where are you going? I cancelled an overseas trip earlier this year & had to wait for our flights to be cancelled, which only happened once the borders closed. Then I still had to ask for a refund! Unless cancelled they won't refund as it's 'change of mind'. Airlines are VERY unhelpful. AirBnB, probably not unless there's an outbreak stopping you travelling there.
If it's not Victoria, but is QLD (we're fine!), NT or WA you should be okay. NSW or TAS unsure. Vic, no way.
Every trip is a gamble, all the time, you never know what will happen! Only you can decide if you want to risk it. If you're not travelling to a hotspot I'd go.
WA has closed borders unless you get an exemption - you won’t get one for a holiday.
If it is anywhere but Victoria I'd go.
I wouldn't go. Every state is now watching the Victoria/NSW situation very carefully and lockdowns could happen very quickly. Look how quickly it all happened here before, people were writing questions just like yours about going overseas then by the time the post got to Facebook the world was in lockdown. I'm in WA and we are putting even further border restrictions in place. I would say most states are moving towards this and also making people pay for their own quarantine to deter people travelling state to state. We are still in a pandemic, unnecessary interstate travel is a stupid risk when you could get stuck.
You don’t say where you are going to?
But no, I would not be leaving SA right now. SA is nice and safe (at the moment).
If you were planning on victoria that would be a HELL NO! They don’t want you and they don’t need you adding to the chaos. You couldn’t do a anything once you get there anyway.
Its all fine and good for everyone to say and stay clear of Victoria but Victoria had no cases only a short time ago. It would only take 1 single person who visited victoria a week or so ago, and take it back to any which state they happen to live in (which could be where you live or your holiday destination). Im interested to see how the other states are in about 2 weeks time since its only recent that the borders closed.
There are still cases of corona in NSW and if people in NSW don't stop travelling, it will spread.
WA borders have been closed the whole time, the only way anyone could get in is if they did 2 weeks quarantine. I believe other states have had the same measures in place except for Queensland (until recently) and NSW. Those are the 3 states that should be taking it seriously in my opinion, every other state already is. How all of Victoria is not in lock down baffles me. NSW border closure is too little too late I think.
I'm in Tasmania.
We've had no new cases in 50 odd days and there's currently no recorded active cases. I believe SA has done quite well with controlling the situation as well.
I actually agree with you, I wouldn't just be discriminating against Victoria, I wouldn't even consider entering any of the Eastern states if I were in SA! I wouldn't consider leaving my state at all tbh...
Qld has had mandatory 2 weeks quarantine for anyone coming in as long as this covid has been a threat. (I live in qld btw) Anytime I've checked the queensland health updates it has said so. Qld is taking this seriously and has had very few cases compared to other states.
Depending on the state you are going to you could end up quarantining for your entire holiday.
It’s just not worth it. Have a staycation instead.
Even if you're not going to VIC, I personally wouldn't go. Things change so quickly that you could become stuck in any state unable to return. I cannot imagine that Virgin wouldn't a least offer a credit in this instance, same with the air bnb. You don't know unless you ask.
No, you couldn’t pay me to go to Victoria right now.
We are in Queensland and had a holiday booked to New South Wales for Christmas (we had booked everything last year before the fan was hit with that brown stuff...). We have since changed holiday plans so we stay in our state, but this will change if queensland gets a second wave. Hope you figure out the best plans for your family.
