Short child

Short child

I have a son who is 11 years old. He is the height of an 8/9 year old. Other children his age are at least a foot taller than he is. It’s starting to affect him and his self esteem.
I’m after some suggestions on some supplements or vitamins to help with his growth.
I have him booked in to see a pediatrician in October for possible ADD-trouble with keeping on task at school, so I will chat with the Dr then, but just wondering if there’s something I can get started on now with him.
Just FYI my husband is 5F 11IN and I’m about 160cms.
A lot of people have told me that when he’s a teenager he will shoot right up, but what if he doesn’t! I want to try and get onto something now.
Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure height is determined by genetics. So nothing you give him will help. He will most likely have a growth spurt with puberty.
I've noticed my 12yo (almost 13) is starting to shoot up and he's one of the shortest in his year. He now eats a ridiculous amount of food and lord knows where he puts it lol.
Perhaps get him in to see someone to talk over his self esteem issues.
Get him into some classes to help with confidence and build him up that way.

Genetics is the biggest factor but other things can affect height too like health, stress, medications and diet. My boys are 18, 16 and 15 I don't control their food I believe kids should eat when they are hungry and this plays a part in their growth. Protein and carbs are good for growth and boys usually gravitate towards those foods anyway.

How tall are you and his dad??

Height is based on genetics not age. If you guys are of above average height have you seen a Peadiatrician about this?

My kids dad is 6’4” tall I’m only about 5’5” my oldest child is now only just taller than me at 13.5 and his younger brother is going to be taller than me by the end of the year I’m guessing.

If my kids were 4 foot and undersized then I would take them to thd paediatrician. However if you are like my friend who is 5 foot and her kids dad is 5 foot 6 and her kids are tiny then I wouldn’t worry at all.

So many different factors to consider hun. He could just be a short kid of he could shoot up later rather than earlier,

Only just saw your edit, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Dads not overly tall and he will probably have a growth spurt about 12 years of age.

My son is the same, he’s just turned 10 and is the same height as most of the 7/8yos. I’m 5’0 and dad is 5’8 so he never had hope unfortunately

My son is 12 and was born at 27 weeks weighing 1.1kg 35cm long. He’s very short for his age and I’m seeing a ped at the end of the month. The doctor said he’s between the 3rd and 10th percentile. He’s also very worried about his height and comments people make. I’m 165cm and his dads 188cm I’m not sure what will happen but I think it is best to get a check up with a ped. Goodluck x

My dad is 6”4 and mum
Is 4”11 and I’m 5”2 and that’s just how I ended up, my sister is 5” and my brother is 6”5. Height is by genetics no supplement will change it

My kids are very tall. I am the height of a primary child. I don't feel you can change it. I ate very well and exercised. Still super short.
