To change surname or not

To change surname or not

My ex husband and I have been separated for almost 18 months and he has given me the divorce paperwork to fill out (for both of us). My question tho - is it wrong to keep his surname or should I go back to my maiden name. We have 3 children together and they all have their fathers last name. I feel like I should revert back to my maiden name once I’m divorced but my married name is who I identify as.....my children will keep their surname but I don’t know what to do - any advice please????

Different situation but I'm actually in the process of changing my last name to my OHs so I've got the same last name as our kids and intend to keep it even if we separate. I would've liked to have gotten married but that's not going to happen for us.

I’d keep the same surname as my kids. The issue would come if you were to have more children with a different surname. But then again you can always hyphenate it to be inclusive. My husbands Mum has been divorced for 33 years and kept the surname, my grandmother for 40 years and kept it
I joke with my husband that if he ever buggered off he’d never be able to take his name back

I kept my married name when I divorced. Several reasons. It meant I kept the same name as my kids. It is easier to spell than my maiden name (although I still have to spell it out for most people). And I was too lazy to change it everywhere.
