Abnormal cells- cervical screening

I had a pap smear done a few years ago that came back with abnormal cells, and then life and pregnancy etc happened. It was then about 4 years since the last one when I needed a new one because of the implanon.

This one has also came back with abnormal cells. The doctor is referring me to a gyno who will apparently inspect further. But until then i’m wondering how concerned I should be?

Not overly, everyone I know has had abnormal cells at some stage. No need to worry yourself until it’s something serious

This is just the new testing regime. They should have explained it to you. I was told if my pap smear came back with HPV cells or anything slightly abnormal I'd be referred to a gyno for more regular, closer inspection and monitoring. If not, it's 5 years until next test.

It's five years for me. I'm not entirely comfortable with that, but that's the way it is now.

Just had my pap done, never had abnormal cells so don't expect any change but have friends that have on and off received an abnormal result and looked into it further. Doesn't mean there is anything "wrong" just that a closer look than the regular test (how much closer do they want to get, am I right?) is required.

Try not to worry, stressing isn’t good for it, also if a smoker that is the worst for the cells.
I had a lletz procedure done at the hospital after a abnormal Pap smear, I think there was another little procedure before that lletz but that was 8years ago (I can’t remember). I deferred from uni as I was stressing from work, uni and the results. But I’ve went on to have 2 children (first a year after lletz) and currently due for my 3rd. I also went back to 4yearly Pap smears last year.

Just take each day as it comes. Ask for more regular tests if concerned. If told you need to remove them, do your research and find somewhere to do it asap. It's 2020, we are very lucky. Mine got caught pretty far along already and now all good. Ask trusted contacts for their recommended doctors and follow advice. Time to be alert but not alarmed.
