Do not use it as a contraceptive. Yes, women used if these way many years ago, but it has a very high failure rate. They used it, because they didn’t have any better option.
It's used for periods so you can still have sex during one. I have used them for 20 years . You wet one with water, squeeze out the water then insert. They hold much more leakage than a tampon and during sex, neither you nor your partner know its there.
To remove, just squat with your legs wide open and bare down as you insert fingers to dislodge . It does take a bit of practice to remove but after a few times, you will be fine . It can be very messy upon removal so just be close by a water basin to wash your hands afterwards.
Yes, they referred to ‘the sponge’ in a Seinfeld episode.
They were a type of contraceptive that worked as a barrier method and I think it was infused with some kind of spermicide.
It’s not what this lady is referring to.
Sea sponges were used badly as contraceptives back in the olden days but that’s not the same as using it as a barrier during your menstrual cycle. Women would also use there diaphragms in the same way back when they still existed.

I thought they had been taken off the market years ago O.O
Why ? I can still buy sea sponges everywhere and have used them for almost two decades. Why would they be taken off the market?
There's a Seinfeld episode about them isn't there? I might be thinking of something else lol. I've never heard of them being used where I live.
