Where to start

Hi everyone

For the last 18 years I have put my life on hold whilst I raised my daughter so my husband could work (he travels a lot for work). I am stuck in a dead end job with no skills.

Now my daughter is all grown up I have no idea what to do with my life.

I have no hobbies and I am not artistic.

The time has come for me to rediscover myself but I have no idea where to start.

Any suggestions would be grateful

I’d google experiences you can try at home. A lot of hobbies and courses have moved online and are also offering introductory one off courses.
The only way you know what is your thing is by trying them.
The trick is to find a hobby, that you enjoy enough that it doesn’t matter if you aren’t good at it.
Last year I learnt to play an instrument for the first time (in my 40s). I’m crap at it, but enjoy the challenge.

Even a ‘dead end job with no skills’ has transferable skills.
Do you work with people? There’s communication. Do you deal with customers and complaints? There’s dispute resolution. Do you abide by workplace health and safety? That’s in every workplace.
I’m making the leap from retail into community services and in the first 6 months of study my current skill set from retail has given me a really sound skill base to build my learning on.
I’ve been in retail for 19 years and sure it is scary to jump into something after that long, but so exciting at the same time.
Good luck finding something x
