Obsessing over corona virus

How do I stop obsessing about corona virus? From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep it's all I think about. I'm even not sleeping well because of it. I'm scared that I'm going to get it and die or I'll lose someone close to me. I'm in Australia and I'm young but overweight do worry that increases my risks. I have to go do shopping as I have no food ATM but too scared to go out. When will this stop how can I stop it? My mind is going crazy all the time. Someone please help me

It's time to get some professional help if this is impacting you to the point you're not sleeping and you're too scared to go out.

In the mean time. Turn off the news, stay off social media and just maintain your hygiene.

The number of cases in Australia are still incredibly small. The chances you have been in contact with any of those people is extremely low.

Your daughter needs to eat. So it’s time to put in a Coles/whoolies order online and arrange to ‘click and collect’. You can literally sit in your car while they load it in your boot!

You need to turn of the news off. Time to watch some Netflix, listen to music, ring your psychologist, practice your meditations, exercise, practice any skills your psychologist has given you.

It's really not that bad just yet. Everyone is just taking precautions and trying to avoid it getting super bad.

Keep washing your hands and staying clear of large crowds. If you don't want to go to the supermarket, do online groceries and pick it up.

And I agree, stay clear of the news and social media. I've been skimming across all corona related stuff because it's too much...

This is anxiety. I find what helps anxiety is 1. Facts. And 2. Letting Your self be prepared and careful but drawing the line at wasting your time and energy worrying.

You actually need professional help if it's impacting you that much.
At the end of the day, it's another strain of SARS. Did the world end when SARS was about?

It's worse than SARS, which says a lot considering SARS is pretty bad. It's this attitude that spreads it.

It’s actually just a mutated version of it.

Yes, SARS is from the Corona family but COVID 19 is worse.

It’s pretty reasonable to be scared, and to avoid going out. If you do have the luxury of staying home and helping to stop the spread of covid19, then you should.

You aren’t alone, it is all anyone talks about, we are all scared. Some of us more than others, but maybe that’s because we’re more realistic than others. We don’t think Australia is immune and that it’ll never happen to us. We watch Italy and China etc. and realise that we are not doing enough to slow it here and that we will end up in the same boat.

I guess all you can do is practice good hygiene, social distancing, and focus on accepting that the rest is out of your hands. Xx

I think its ok to be scared about something that is very serious.
It makes you be more conscious of what is happening and ways to keep safe.

I work at a school, and I am petrified that a child will come to school carry it transfoit onto me and I carry it to my dad. If my dad gets this, he will probably (knock on wood) be another statistic on the virus numbers. And what is worse, people aren't taking it seriously enough to care about others in this scenario.

The food will end up back in the store so it's time to head to the closest grocer and pick up some food.

I actually found what helped me (somewhat) was preparing. All that I could do was make sure I had enough stock in case hubby and I needed to go into lock down. We did a stock take of our chest freezer, pantry and fridge before doing a shop and made sure I did a meal plan. I had everything planned and I felt somewhat better about what was happening.

Remind your self of the facts . And stay away from social media for a bit ! Social media is in no way helpful right now! There’s so much misinformation !!
Familiarize yourself with mindfulness tactics and Practice then there’s heaps of info about that online just google mindfulness to calm anxiety
And the biggest fact of of 98%of the confirmed cases of corona virus recover fully and are fine . So the small chance of you contracting and suffering the critical version of corona is an even smaller chance of ending in death .
Focus on activities that you enjoy doing to pass the time ! It’s going to be around for a while , but it will pass

Anxiety and you aren’t the only one. Switch off from the news and social media. Isolate yourself as much as you can.
