Anxiety

Hi Mums.
I’ve always suffered with anxiety and I’m aware now how bad it’s getting. It’s there everyday now, and I’m worrying myself to feeling depressed. I’m not enjoying life because I’m constantly overthinking, over analysing everything and I just can’t control it. I’ve seeked help from my GP a while ago with only the suggestion of medication or a psychologist. Both of those options scared me and left it at that and didn’t do anything.
Can someone shed light on my fears and what helped you?

❤️

First of all, hugs. I'm sorry you're feeling like this - I wouldn't wish these feelings on my worst enemy. It is so exhausting going through life in a constant state of fight or flight.

What helped me, or what IS helping me, is medication and therapy. I found that once I had meds for about a month, the thought of going to see someone didn't seem so bad. I don't get to go very often (because work) but I was lucky enough to find a therapist who taught me some good strategies to lessen my anxiety. The meds, while they can make you feel a bit yuck at first, help to dull the intrusive thoughts so you can function. I would encourage at least trying them.

I also made sure I had a trusted circle of supportive people who I can tell if I'm not having a good day. I'm pretty open about it because it helps everyone if they know why I might be struggling.

And it sounds trite but taking a walk in the sunshine (I prefer to be near the ocean if I can) really helps.

I found after seeing my doctor they referred me to an online program called “this way up” was fantastic! One main focus each week for 6 weeks and actively putting these in practice genuinely worked.

Anxiety is no joke! It kept me inside at home many many days and terrified me most of my 20s. I got to the point I was sobbing inconsolably each day. My parents sought the help of a holistic counsellor who specialises in Bowen therapy/nlp/hypnotherapy and timeline therapy. I highly recommend it. I also learnt new breathing techniques with this lady and I actually improved after the first session. I left that session with hope that I would get better and continued going for over a year. I am living a mostly anxiety free life now 9 years later. Never does it keep me home and generally doesn’t bother me day to day. I use essential oils now which also combat negative feelings. I never felt like I could come out of it but you can. Keep going and pushing through. Let the feelings go, don’t fight but flight, overthinking is part of anxiety

It’s such a hard thing to deal with and can have such a big impact on our lives. I want to share with you something that has reduced my anxiety to almost none. I changed my diet drastically. There is no scientific evidence that this works, no studies but hundreds of anecdotal stories of people overcoming anxiety/ depression/ myriad of other health conditions.
