My mother has horribly just been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and needs 24/7 care in a nursing home (she needs a full hoist).
It is so overwhelming. Does anyone have any experiences or advice to share on the nursing home process?

We found a nursing home ‘broker’ invaluable. They helped navigate the system and helped us find the perfect place for my grandmother.
Make sure you go visit as many as you can. If you see other family members walking around, ask them their honest opinions on the place, don't go for the cheapest, but don't go for the most expensive one either.
Do your research.
We have had to find my dad (55 at the time) a nursing home because the hospital gave up on him and wouldn't offer him any rehab, despite our plees.
You really need to find one that suites your financial status, but also one that your mother likes. And also, one where you can visit her often, we visit my dad daily and we already know the residents that get no visitors. It's heartbreaking, so we often sit with them.
The home my dad is in, doesn't look amazing, but dad LOVES it! He loves the nursing staff, they have built a really good connection with him and have been able to learn his cues and way of communicating (he has aphasia).
Best of luck.
