My mum has my intellectual disabled nephew he is 11 but a mind of a 1/2 year old there is no communication with him can walk just doesn’t talk or understand just after any suggestions or ideas on things you can do with someone as bad as him you can’t go to a pool or a park as he just runs off unless strapped into his chair a beach he would drown he has a short mind frame so doesn’t want to do things very long unless you give him an iPad to watch abc obviously it is no good if out and about with no internet access
So coming up to Christmas instead of my poor mum being locked inside with him has anyone got ideas of places suitable for someone like him in or around Melbourne
He is still in nappies and can’t eat everyday food like a sandwich

My son was a runner well into the teenage years. There are many fully fenced playgrounds and parks around these days. I just used to let him run in the fenced area. There are many ‘accessible’ parks designed with sensory activities etc.
Do you know what I should google to find these parks
I just googled playgrounds and parks that are fully fenced in Melbourne and a huge list came up
Is she getting help? This is a great question for the disability support worker/program in your area! They will know ideal places and perhaps connect your Mum with other carers of similarly disabled teens/adults? They will be able to help her and guide her through! Such a hard thing to take on, your Mums a super star.
She is a little he goes to a special home every Fortnight as respite but as she is a grandparent and a dhs child everything is limited
It’s also a good idea to tap into the disability community on Facebook. Other parents in your mums situation will live locally and there are a huge number of Facebook groups for people parenting a child with a disability.
Local parents will know the places to go, when to go etc.
I was a learn to swim teacher, I watched a support worker teach a severly disabled guy to swim. Took about 2 years. But the joy on his face was contagious.started with him on the support workers back, by the end of the 2 years he could let go, under the water he looked so free.
