Contraception options to avoid pregnancy

Hi IMs,

Firstly, I will be speaking with my GP about it, I'm just after some insight from others who have experience.

Long story short, I'm done having kids. I already have 2 under 5 years old (same father, but we aren't together anymore). I can't get my tubes tied because I'm apparently still too young and could change my mind (I'm 24 and haven't changed my mind on this in 2 years). I've recently started seeing a guy who has a child from a previous relationship that's a similar age to my oldest. We've had that talk and agree neither of us wants more (or at least definitely not in the foreseeable future).

Our current contraception methods are me on the pill and him using a condom but I want further protection as a just in case, without going to the extreme and not having sex altogether.

I've heard you can have the mirena/iud as a non-hormonal contraceptive and then use the pill in conjunction with this. Has anyone done this before and just how effective is it? We'd still use condoms but I'm looking for that plan B incase it were to break or something (not against terminating but I'd prefer to avoid that stress altogether if I can).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

Have you considered implanon?

I was tossing up between the mirena and implanon and I decided on the implanon as it was less invasive and easier to be inserted and removed should it not have agreed with me.

It takes some getting used to but I've been happily using it for 10 odd years, it's effectiveness is 99.9% if my memory serves me which is about as much of a guarantee as you can get.

The mirena is a great option but just an fyi it is a hormonal contraceptive- levonorgestrel.
