Hysterectomy advice

Hey fabulous sisterhood!!
I’m booked in for a hysterectomy next month. I’m really not sure what to expect post op and need some guidance please. No idea what to take to the hospital in regards to what clothes/pjs will be easier to wear? Average nights you are kept in? Post op pain- what would you compare it to? For the single mummas, how did you cope at home? I’m starting to get quite anxious.

My sister had a hysterectomy recently.
She was in hospital for 4 days but warned that it could have been 6 days. I’d plan for the 6 days.
You can’t lift anything over a kilo or so for ages and no lifting arms above your head.
About the 6 week mark she was cleared to drive and return to work.
Plan to wear very loose clothes. I’d wear high waisted granny knickers that are on the loose side.

I had one nearly 7 weeks ago. I'll be honest it's a horrible recovery. It's frustrating that you can't do or lift anything for so long. Doctors did an amazing job on my scar though so no issues there.
Take nighties and granny undies into hospital and pads just in case. Also toiletries to make you feel half human in hospital.
Be prepared for crying but know it's normal.
I'm a single mum and my mum came here for nearly 4 weeks then I stayed with her for a week. I didn't drive for 5 weeks but a friend was driving just after 3 weeks so depends on your doctor.
I was in hospital for 5 nights because I had to poop before they let me go home. I was then back in hospital for another week because of an unrelated complication.
Buy a washing basket trolley I am still using mine all the time. Don't even try to lift it's not worth it!
Also ask the hospital social worker to organise home help. It's not much but they will clean your bathrooms and floors.
The pain has been up and down for me but I had a hard time walking for a few weeks.
Actual surgery was ok and pain after was manageable.
You will be ok but just be kind to yourself. Goodluck.

I had one 5 years ago. 4-5 days in hospital, just depends on when you can fart. Yes, you need to be able to fart before being discharged. (Its so they can tell if the have perforated your bowel.) Recovery - I wasn't able to drive for 6 weeks as I have a full incision hysterectomy, so just like a c-section. Wear clothes that are comfortable and don't squeeze your tummy, so tracksuit pants, leggings or pj pants, and comfy undies. No lifting of more than about a 1kg and no exercise other than gentle walking for 6 weeks.

And coping at home - get Netflix, cause you won't be able to do much else but watch TV.....
