Even the professional cameras are digital cameras, but what you're after is a DSLR camera. I have a canon eos DSLR camera and it's great for learning, it has automatic settings as well as manual settings.
I do too and love it. I waited for a special with the extra lenses and bag.

I meant I didn’t want the type of camera you get at jb hifi and such
Those places do sell good cameras, otherwise it's specialty camera stores
My Canon eos came from a specialty camera store.

Lenses are more important than the camera..any entry level DSLR will be fine such as the nikon or canon with a twin lens kit. Then.you can buy other lenses as your skills and knowledge increase. A tripod is also a good idea.
