Rough housing
Asking for a cuddle
Sitting down for a hot chocolate with them and asking about their day
Complimenting them
Encouraging them
Reading a book before bed
staying at school drop off a couple of minutes longer to be interested in how they start their day
Jumping into their bed before they go t ok sleep for an extra cuddle
Let them have input on what to do today/what's for dinner ect
Cook with them

I was raised in an affection-free household, so also struggled with this. What I've learnt is that my kids really only need simple things:

To never have a cuddle or affection rejected, even if we're busy, cranky or they're misbehaving.

To be greeted each morning with a smile/cuddle.

To be told they are loved - a lot.

To be talked to, listened to, given choices & not have feelings or opinions dismissed.

To be read to, encouraged & played with, doing something they want to do.

They don't need grand gestures, just everyday actions that give them attention & feel wanted & valued.
