So I’ve been on the pill since I was 18, never been off it now I’m 25
However I’ve been having issues with my period
I never had painful or heavy periods till about two years ago when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and now the pain I get with my period is horrible, lasts for 4-5 days I can’t move on the first day
I’ve been going back and forth to the doctors since January with it ( when I finally worked up the courage to see about the issue) first the plan was to take an anti inflammatory from the day I started the sugar pills didn’t work
So I was sent for an ultrasound and it cane back clear, and now the doctor has decided to switch me to the rod as a birth control to see if that helps.
If that doesn’t help she is sending me to the gyno to investigate further, but my question is if you’ve had the rod, have the rod for birth control, what was your experience like? Is it a good birth control? Did your periods change?

Worst birth control I had been on.
It started off okay, however after about 9 months I was constantly spotting and had intense cramps constantly. I put on a heap of weight, became depressed, had super low iron levels along with more! Literally felt the worst I ever had.
Have you considered the Depo shot? It stops your period completely! Only downfall is one big burst of hormone change in one shot.
Can’t have it as it ups my chance of oestoposais and as I already have a joint disease it’s not a risk I want to take
I'm current using the rod. I have mixed reviews at the moment.
Pros: I haven't had a period or any period related symptoms for the 6 months I've been using it.
Cons: I've gained 9kgs in that 6 months! My moods I'm finding are only now starting to effect me, but I must admit I'm not 100% sure if it's from the rod or just "life" at the moment.
Have you tried skipping the sugar pills and just taking the active continuously?
I’d do that for a few months to see if it helps before changing contraceptives.
Yes I have
I get random spotting and still get cramps during when I should have taken the sugar pills
Get referred to gyno ASAP... could be anything, u have already stuffed around long enough with the gp. Good luck
