I no nothing apple not iphone or ipad.
My son wants an ipad for his birthday. He will be 9. School really push a lot of tasks at home that require an ipad. We do have a tablet samsung but it often isn't compatible with the soft ware they need to use.
Anyway... what do i need to know about these devices? I am all over internet safety.. but in terms of their specs, useage and compaitablity. Likes and dislikes.
Things that made you go oh.. or whatever.
How do i know which one will be best suited...

Avoid going into a store without knowing full well what you want as they'll just try to upsell.
First off, decide whether you want it to run only via Wifi or if you want it to use internet, also known as cellular (i.e. if you go away, has it's own sim card). It's more expensive if you want the latter option.
How many games do you think he will play? As apps take up a large amount of storage, as do photos and music. However he won't be using other aspects of it like photos. With music though, you could download Spotify so you aren't downloading music and taking up space.
I'd look at about 128gb to begin with, it's a fair whack of storage! But depending what you can afford and how much work the school requires them to do, you might be better going larger size wise.
If you can, pick one up second hand to save on costs :)
I don't know a lot about Apple products either, but I do know with lots of high schools an iPad is a basic prerequisite. So depending on your budget, if you can afford to get one of the most recent models it may save you from needing to upgrade when he hits high school.
Aside from that, i do know that the iPad minis are quite a popular choice for kids of this age and they aren't too painful on the back pocket lol.
I’m no expert but I know enough being 9 he won’t need the top of the range ones my kids have iPad minis my daughter is 5 in prep hers is only 32 gb which is quite sufficient for her she uses it for kids games and school reading egg program and it’s fine but then can watch abc or YouTube so from my knowledge they are all the same basically besides size and price
