Menopause and periods in your 40’s. Help!!

Hi Ladies. Warning TMI!!
I am in my early - mid 40s and have possibly been in peri menopause for 2-3 years. Started out with the sweats then my period became irregular. When I did get it, it would be heavy-ish but nothing bad. When I had regular periods from 13-40 I never had heavy bleeding, cramps or anything like that. I was lucky.
About a month ago I got one of my few periods for the past 12 months. It was horrendous! I bled for days and days, I bled through clothing numerous times. I wore double pads and toilet paper and would bleed through it. I practically gave birth several times to massive blood clots. They literally fall out of me. I’m single so I’m not on the pill but I ended up getting a prescription filled just to make it stop. I spotted through the next month even on the pill then got my period again. I am bleeding like a stuck pig. It’s almost traumatising! I had a blood clot the size of a plum this time plus all the other horrors mentioned above.
I’ve made an appointment to see a doctor who deals with this thing but the wait time is a month. What I want to know is has this happened to you? Did your doctor do something to help? Is this what menopause is? How do you manage this kind of bleeding and clots? It’s awful!! Please help

It doesn't sound like menopause with the huge blood clots! Take yourself to emergency and tell them about the bleeding! You need to have a pelvic ultrasound and more than likely a hystroscopy d & c! Please get seen to asap! Good luck!

It's happened to me too, for about 6 or so periods, heavy bleeding through pads with a tampon, clots, waking up 4-6 times a night to change, up to 2 weeks long, then all of a sudden it went to normal, then light and now nothing at all, no period. It was like a last hoorah or something. My GP said that I was to keep a diary and when I was due to go back to follow it up it had sorted itself out. If it hadn't the GP was talking curet or ablation (think thats right) Started approx. 18 months after noticeable peri.

🙋‍♀️ this is me! Turning 40 this year, have had other hormone imbalances going on too.... not fun times! I see an endocrinologist for women & she has suggested endometrial ablation. I'm thinking it over, but that is likely where i will end up.

Currently dealing with very similar symptoms. Have had the scans and tests and am about to see the specialist after a 6 month wait-don't ask- The cause of mine in a "lump" in my uterine lining. Heavy bleeding, passing clots, skipped periods and then a mega period...hope you get some answers soon.

To add, my gp has been doing regular blood tests and what not but I've effectively had a month total since Sept last year where i haven't been bleeding. Started with me waking up in a pool of blood and later sitting down on the toilet and having what felt the entire contents of my guts come spilling out.
Tranexamic (sp?) Acid has helped.
