Heart palpitations

Heart palpitations

Hey mummas! This isn’t exactly parenting related but I really just want some reassurance. I’m 29, last year I started experiencing some heart palpitations. Randomly and probably once a week. I was smoking when they started and have since quit. It’s been 7 months to be exact. Anyway, just in the past month or so they have increased and now I’m getting them daily. I’ve had a couple of episodes where It gets pumping so hard and fast that I get really lethargic and nauseous. However what I’m experiencing most is “skipped beats” or “ectopic beats”. And it’s reallt exhausting. I’ve been to hospital those two times where they have taken bloods and done an ecg and picked up nothing. And typically they stop once I get seen. I’m booked in for a Holter monitor at the start of April but in the mean time I’m trying to find what triggers them and what settles them and there seems to be nothing I can pin point. They seem to hit after I eat, when I get up too quick and when I’m at work. I am really scared they will one day turn into a heart attack or there’s an underlying condition that hasn’t been picked up as my dads dad died of a heart attack and he also suffered them. I have heard they are quite common in women my age and a lot of the time harmless but it’s starting to really affect my life as a mum and my job. Is anyone else in my boat and can tell me how long you have suffered with them and what you have done to help them? It’s giving me anxiety and I’m starting to get very emotional when it affects my sleep. I also have asthma so it’s a possibility my asthma preventer is a cause. That’s all I can think of. Doctors aren’t overly concerned so far but I am! Please help :(

I suffer from heart palpitations and have done for as long as I can remember. I’m not alarmed by them anymore and have learnt to breath thru them and they go. Go and see an electrophysiologist (specialist cardiologist) they will be able to give you a diagnosis and a treatment plan if necessary. I had an ablation in 2015 and my episodes where good for almost 3 years they have slowly returned but no where near as bad as prev.
I found the same as you I could go a week with none and then have a week where I had episodes all day every day.
Alcohol was def a trigger for me. So to is fatigue and exercise. But exercise does help at the same time.

Just a thought although I know nothing about this really... but with trialling things to see if they are a trigger, wouldn’t it be best to cut things out for a couple of weeks, then decide if you noticed changes.
You could have also done this and just not mentioned.
Otherwise I have no advice. I’ve only ever had heart palpitations because I was drinking an enegery drink a day when I had a hectic work schedule. As soon as I stopped the drinks, so did the heart palpitations

I had the same thing when I was 16. I had to wear a heart monitor for a week and press the button when it occurs. They found out that I had a heart rythn issue and it got fixed with a catheter operation. How ever they started again since 25 and I personally feel that they have a lot to do with stress and also chemicals. Certain smells make my heart go crazy such as bleach. I also hav eit when I drink high sugar drinks like powerrade or coca Cola. I do not get it with coffee.

Do you suffer anxiety? They can be a trigger warning for an anxiety attack. Also, can be to do with stress.

I suffer them massively but it’s due to a congenital heart condition, they make you feel so lethargic and can be really scary. Definitely try and get to the bottom of it!

Also look into a syndrome calls PoTS!

Are you on any medications? Some react badly with foods high in Tyramine including fermented alcohol like beer and wine, it can send your blood pressure through the roof and people also get heart palpitations.

I have had this issue for about 15yrs and I’m fine. It’s unpleasant but I’ve never been in a position where I’ve had a heart attack. And my siblings and mother and grandfather have heart disease. It turned out to be an electrical arrhythmia that can be fixed fairly easily with day surgery or you can just leave it.

I use to get them regularly until I took, magnesium, potassium, whole food C not ascorbic acid and real salt not sodium. Much like an electrolyte drink.
Lots of peoples heart issues are resolved with potassium etc if the reason you get them is because you are low.

It’s possible you could be deficient in some vitamins and minerals. Maybe see a Naturopath. Also some forms of birth control raise Copper levels and cause lots of health issues like this
