Mirena downsides

Hi,

I am wondering what everyones bad side effects are from the Mirena.

My GP pushed for it as I am sterile so wanted to stop my period. She said no to the Depo as it depletes Calcium and said she has never seen a woman who still had her period after insertion - then came me! I still get them. Yayyyyyy!

Since having it inserted 9 months ago, I also get thrush about 4 days before every period (every month without fail). Sex is now painful as I dry up almost immediately and it leaves me swollen and in pain for a day or two afterwards and I have never had that problem in my life prior to insertion. Weight gain (im blaming the Mirena haha!) among other shitty things that I can genuinely only put down to the Mirena.

Tell me your bad side effects, please. I think I want it out.

Sorry, loved mine. Only had it removed as I'm now post menopausal and it had 'expired'. But everyone is different so you need to do what is right for you.

Yes it stops loads of peoples periods, but didn’t stop mine.

Mirena made bleed non stop. Also made extremely moody! Close to depression. I got it out after 7 months and felt like myself again

I get my period every month. I was hoping the merinawould stop that. Bleeding is much lighter though... suppose that's a plus.

Mine was great initially.....then I was bleeding every 2 weeks. Terrible migraines. I stacked on the weight & my hair started falling out. I have had it out & now have high blood pressure. Issues with the blood supply to my kidneys. I blame the mirena. Now it’s gone the weight is slowly coming down. My hair is growing back & no more migraines. It’s the devil...get rid of it.

Before I had the Mirena, I bled 25 out of a 28 day month as I had severe endometriosis. Had it for about 9 months and I continued to bleed 25 out of a 28 day cycle. Works for some. Did not work for me.
