2 year old not speaking

Hi Mums,

I am a little worried about my sons speech.
My almost two year old does not speak. He has a few word that he will only use at home 'kitty' 'mum' and 'dad'.
He will shake his head for no but otherwise - it is like he speaks his own language, almost gibberish when he gets a little hyper. There's not really any words forming and in front of the paediatrician, he won't make a sound.
We are on the public waiting list for him to see a speech pathologist (he has been seeing a public paediatrician since he was one as he had a chronic health problem that is now resolved, although it did delay his milestones a little (walking, crawling) due to balance issues.
My second son was a late bloomer but had a few more words by now as well as putting two words together. My firstborn was pretty onto it all and speaking short sentences by now.

I'm wondering if any other Mums have had this experience and what you found helped? What were your outcomes?

My daughter was nearly 3 before she started talking and even now some things are hard to understand. If she mispronouces a word then I correct her but she is picking up new words/ sentences everyday.

You’re doing all the right things by getting them seen to. And it’s just the waiting game now for an appointment which is annoying..

In the mean time, just keep encouraging words, reading, talking to them clearly ect ect which I’m sure you already do lots of.

For what it’s worth, mine wasn’t saying a lot at two either and then at about 2.5 just all of a sudden started speaking sentences. Literally.

Can you go to a private speech therapist. Rather than wait? Early intervention in these cases are the key!
