Credit card issues

I had a credit card which I have been making regular payments on which I can prove with my bank statements for the past two years.
The amount I have been paying was agreed to with a representative of the CC vendor.
Now I I’ve just had a guy turn up at my door and serve me with papers saying there was a court hearing I knew nothing about in November last year because there was still an outstanding amount and now I am not sure what to do considering the payments are still going toward the credit card.
Has anyone got any advice or been in a similar situation?
I am crapping myself because I was unaware I was doing anything wrong.
Please help 😔
*Note I have only ever spent what I can afford on this card and two years ago made an interest free purchase and have always paid the same set amount each pay day so please no hate.
My anxiety is through the roof.
Any advice or feedback appreciated xx

Very odd. Do you have the agreement you made with them in writing? If you are making regular payments they cannot chase you for the balance as long as you making payments. My advice would be to ring the bank and find out what is going on.

I don’t have the agreement in writing that I can find however I have two years worth of statements that can be provided to the court or whoever and prove regular and consistent payments have been made

I would avoid dealing with the debt company. Call your bank tomorrow and get it sorted.

Firstly, cut up the damn card.
If you could "afford" what you're buying, you wouldn't need a card.
Secondly, read "the barefoot investor".
Thirdly, speak to your bank and organise something with them, avoid the debt collectors.

You need to be careful with interest free.. they often give you a minimum payment and not the amount that will have the debt paid off in the set period then you get slammed with 20+% interest rate after the period. You need to contact the company your card is with and pay it out ASAP..

sounds very dodgy and sounds like a scam. if you were doing anything wrong, the CC provider would have sent notifications, emails, sms, letters or phone calls to advise you of what was owing/outstanding before they proceeded to legal action. There should be statements sent each month with account and payment details.

If the papers you got says to pay to them DO NOT do this. Talk to your bank. It sounds like a scam to me.

Call the CC company immediately. Not the number this person gave you but the one on you original statements. They will be able to tell you if it has been refured to a debt collector which is unlikely as you are making payments. Get all the proof you paid payments organised just incase they have escalated but its extremely unlikely that a court case has happened without you knowing.

By law they must notify if it is proceeding to debt collection

Interest free cards can really sting once the interest free period runs out, or if you start making other purchases on it. Once you’ve sorted out what is happening with this credit card company, perhaps shop around with other banks? Depending on how much you owe, and the amount of interest you are currently paying, a small personal loan or balance transfer to a different credit card could be something that will help you pay not only less, but actually get it paid off and gone!
