I have really thin hair and I'm so fed up and down about it. I went to the hairdressers for a trim last week and I felt so embarrassed. You can see my scalp through my hair at the front, and it's so straggly. I have shoulder length hair. I have tried shorter styles/bobs, but it just means I have a thin bob. Short hair makes me look like a boy. Nothing really works. At least with longer hair I have the option to put it up. My dad has thin wispy hair so I have him to thank although it was never as bad as it is now when I was younger. I'm 44 now so I'm wondering if my hormone levels are to blame and if so, what I can do about it. I have had extensions in the past but if course they just ruin your hair in the long run. Clip ins don't work because my hair is so thin you can see them and the texture is so different that they don't blend in and look ridiculous. I've wasted a lot of money in the past on stuff like that. It looks ok for one day after blow drying but then goes limp and looks greasy - even though it isn't. I know I shouldn't get so upset, but hair really does affect the way you look and feel, and mine just looks dreadful. Are there any amazing supplements, pills or potions that ladies with the same problem? I'm in the UK but I'm sure I could order anything you recommend online. I have curlers but even then it still looks thin.
Thanks so much in advance x

Have you discussed this with your GP. Sometimes thyroid issues can cause hair loss.
Have you tried anything thickening system shampoos/conditioners? I know matrix have a range. I’ve tried it, it doesn’t necessarily give you more hair but it just makes it feel plumper and fuller somehow, so that might aid you.
Other wise I’d be talking to your GP and see if their are some kinds of vitamins you can get on.
Also, you’re not alone when it looks terrible day 2 after a wash. Most people are the same. And if it helps, you might just need to wet and style it every day. So many people have to because of the type of hair they have or the products they need to put in to style it. So don’t be afraid to wet and blow dry daily.
I have thin hair too so I wear clip in extensions. You can remove them any time you like and they are very easy to put back in . They thicken your hair beautifully and no one will see them . Buy a good quality pair that match your own hair colour and you’ll get years of use out of them . You can even amp them up more too with a couple of strands of crazy colours on a night out or a social function . You can use heat irons on them , curl them, straighten them , cut them etc , to fit in with your own hair. Extensions are the best invention ever.
This is me
I have thin fine hair and then in my early 40’s lost heaps due to stress causing ill health in all ways. Looked like male pattern balding on top. I have worked on my health and stress levels and have had a regrowth. The newer hair is finer and whisper and you see my scalp when wet. I have a bob but with a few layers. Took me years to find s hairdresser. I use no silicone no sulphate etc hair products. Never blow dry or heat straighten or curl. I use a diffuser on low heat only. Try googling diatomaceous earth. I don’t think it’s ever going to be much thicker like in my pre 40’s sadly.
And no doctor or test showed anything
Hair that has already grown is already 'dead'. So using shampoos and serums etc will only give a short term effect. I would try looking after your body to see if new hair will grow.
This includes a visit to the GP for blood tests. Thyroid hormones and others will affect hair growth and hair fall. So its worth checking this out.
Stress will also affect hair fall. As will quick weight loss.
Supplements taken internally may also be helpful. Including Collagen /gelatin. Silica. And antioxidants. Also fishoil.
A naturopath may be able to advise good quality supplements that may help.
All the best.
I didn’t have thyroid issue apparently but still thin hair. I started drinking juices(homemade) and hair improved a lot.
