I’m struggling to understand HPV. It’s just been detected on my latest Pap smear. I had one 18 months ago, and then every 2 yearly before that. They have always been fine. I had the 3 vaccines about 12years ago (34 now). Been with only the ONE sexual partner for the last 10 years. How has this happened?
I’ve never or still don’t have any sort of symptoms. Apparently there are so many strains, and I don’t have any of the ones they know causes cancer or Genital warts. I just have to go back in 12 months to check for changes. Husband swears he hasn’t been unfaithful. What, when, why, how?

This is something I would discuss with your doctor as to why it wasn't picked up in the past and how you could have contracted it.
Then make an informed decision about whether there's been unfaithfulness.
Hpv can lay dormant for years and not be detected on pap smears. Maybe your immune system is at a low and thats why its only showing up now. Either way I would speak to your doctor
To be honest you should not get Hpv and it depends on what strain you have , 16,18 and 26 I think are the serious ones and I would ask what strain you have as Hpv a certain type is contracted via sex with a Male etc, if you had vaccine you should be covered yet it runs its course after 10 yrs , I would get some actual facts off gp and pending on the strain would then be talking to partner ! He may have had it and not known in past he only has to sleep with one person prior to you to get it and as its
Hard to know if vaccine has run its course or if he has in fact been unfaithful ,do the homework first , I would be pissed as I have had vaccine and my partner at time cheated and lucky I didnt catch it but if I had I would have known as he was my only and recent partner
Educate yourself first then base it on facts
Have you looked into it to see weather the injections themselves have caused this ? As the virus is what you were injected with anyway. My son got the chicken pox injection as a baby and eight years later developed shingles bcoz of the injection having the CPox virus in it . The HPV injection could just be doing the same thing . As long as your type is not the cancer causing type you have no need for concern as they don’t mutate into cancer unless the type you have already is that one . Therefore I’m surprised they want to see you in 12 months as your body will naturally rid itself of the wart virus on its own ( it won’t if it’s one of the cancer ones which , by the way is only a few out of many types of HPV ) . Ask them if they can find out the actual strain type for you now instead of in 12 months time as that’s the only reason I could imagine they want to follow it up in a year , which is silly of them , when you can find out now . It can takes months or years for your body to naturally rid itself of HPV but it will never cause cancer if it’s not the cancer causing strain .
I had the exact same thing happen to me. As I understand it the new test detects hpv cells while the Pap smear looked for actual cell changes in your cervix. The hpv is what can cause the cell changes so that's why this way of testing should be more effective. Like others have said - hpv can be dormant for years and there are often no signs and symptoms
There are over 100 different strains of HPV. About a third of them are sexually transmitted (about 30 strains). About a third of those can cause cancer (about 10 strains).
The vaccine prevents the four strains that cause up to 70% of cervical cancers...
TL:DR we would need more info in order to help ease your mind
I had the vax in high school and have only been with my husband without protection(he is my 3rd) I ended up with one and no idea how. He didn’t have any :/ I was so peeved as I have no idea how! I found out around 1-2years after the vax as well.
