Hi guys,
My partner is suffering from depression and has been getting worse over the last 6 months, life has been hell!!! I'm walking on egg shells the kids are starting to become afraid to look at him the wrong way just in case he loses his sh#t, he finds a negative in everything. He just spends the majority of his time off on the couch playing xbox (he is a DIDO in the mines) Last week I sent him a message that basically said get some help or the relationship is over, the message was way more sensitive than that. I wait on his every need and work full time with 4 kids, im at breaking point. He finally agreed that he needs to seek help, and now my question is whats next? Do we go see a Dr for a referal to a psychologist or can a Dr help? If so which Dr in the Cairns area do you recommend? I want him to see someone who actually cares and wants to help him. Im Just scared to get a crap Dr that will potentially scare him off from seeking help. This is a huge breakthrough for our family and we need this to work. Any advise and recommendations will be greatly appreciated xxx

Start with booking a long appointment with your GP. They will make the referrals needed and they may prescribe medication.
Look for reviews on GP's in the area and what they have a special interest in. Here is one i found having a rough look for u. http://thrivemedical.com.au/about.html#tab-3
Good luck!
We're in Cairns and similar situation. Our GP is Apple Tree Medical and they have been amazing. Dr Ben Ireland is blokey enough not to scare hubby off, but intuitive and helpful in finding a mental health professional that's the right fit. However, don't expect the first person he sees to be the right, or last person - the personal fit is very important. They have to trust this person enough to reveal their deepest fears. Worse than finding a trusted beautician ;) (If you don't find time to laugh, you cry)
