RUOK?...or not

All this talk about RUOK Day etc makes me laugh.

Our workplace is all about RUOK but when they’ve noticed I haven’t been ok, they just pretend that they can’t see it. The CEO sent out this lovely email about it, but work is one of the reasons why I’m not ok. Why a person with whom I had such a great relationship with at work, suddenly turned on me. I’ve been left feeling bereft and lonely.

A group of people I used to assist in out of work hours, have stopped all contact too since I had to cease assisting them in January this year due to work commitments. I thought we were friends and that they understood. But I guess I was wrong. I just feel so bereft. I’ve given myself to work and other people but when I need some support, I look around and there is no one here to help.

R U OK Day is actually bullshit.

So many companies spruke off promoting it but what if someone actually isn't okay? What are they going to do about it? Jack shit that is what.

And when you do tell people you aren't okay it's instantly post natal depression, there's stuff that goes on behind closed doors that people don't see or hear.

I'm really sorry you've been let down by people :( it seems normal.

You're obviously working for the wrong workplace.

Last time a work colleague was struggling, the manager actually helped getting him to talk to a psychologist. As in, dialled the number and handed him the phone to the company shrink.

Seems like it's a good thing for workplaces not valuing mental health to have the reminder? I work for a government department and our mental health is very prioritised and hubby works privately but has a workplace that is just as supported. If yours isn't, and the reminder about mental health from the CEO isn't reflective of the workplace, maybe put yourself first and find one that is?

Poster here... I work for government health body so was pretty disappointed at how mental health is treated, when they just talk the talk without any follow-through.

Get your union involved? Or contact your harassment officer, health and safety officer or people services?
