Is it normal for my 2 and a half year old to literally most of the time refuse to look at the camera? Or will completely ignore me when I ask? I very rarely have a photo of her looking and actually smiling at the camera.

Totally normal. All my kids were the same. I'd have to sneak in surprise photos when they were playing and happy lol
All of my kids at age 2! Then again at age 7 haha.
You have to be very sneaky.
Completely normal.
Don't force it.
Non-posed photos are far cuter anyway
It’s normal. I’m learning professional photography and not many kids at that age will sit and smile. (Been going for 4 years)
I use bubbles, toys, box (to sit on to station them) flowers, and just get them interacting with it. If you want a photo smiling at you I suggest sitting her on a chair and grab her fav toy and tickle her and get it making a noise. Make it fun and you will capture a smile. In the professional world so many parents want the perfect posed smiling shot, it’s not my cup of tea and very hard to get with toddlers.... I personally much prefer catching them in their element that isn’t so “posed” if I can. Toys or bubbles do the trick every time
Even a pout, angry face or something that is a true representation of their personality is much more special than a fake cheesy grin. Just have fun with it and capture some awesome memories
