11 year old bed wetting

11 year old bed wetting

My 11year old son is still wetting the bed. His dad and I are separated (7 years ago) and I have since remarried 3years ago. I have him 2 weekends out out 3 and all school holidays. I've noticed he is wetting the bed at least 1 night over the weekend I have him and every 2/3 nights during the week. I've cut out drinks before bed, tried nappy pants, mattress protector and waking him up during the night. It happens more when it's cold. I'm at my wits end. I can't think of anything medically wrong and am thinking he's being lazy to an extent. What more can I do? I know he's embarrassed because he's hiding soiled pj's and not telling me anymore, I have to ask.

Mine either does it in a dream that its on the toilet. Or has admitted to being too scared to get up and tried to hold it. Then we discussed how they then need to get up and get changed and its lots more work, but logic doesnt work against fear.
I think you pee more in the cold, and not wanting to get out of bed would be increased then too so that would explain that part.

Look up night time incontinence in children and speak to your GP. It's not his fault and he needs support. Cutting out drinks closer to bedtime actually isn't recommended because the signal his brain gets when his bladder is full is weaker and less likely to wake him. Gp can look at medication, urologist referrals, continence physio referrals... Lots of options. There are also special alarms for late bed wetter you put on the bed you could look at. Time to help him. At 11 he's feeling ashamed and likely to have school camps soon too.

There are specialist you can see my 7 yr old has incontinence his bladder spasms and he can't hold his bladder. He is currently on meds which have helped hugely but it's an on going problem. His specialist says he will grow out of it once we retrain his bladder.

You can’t think of anything medically wrong? I’m assuming you are not a urologist? Why don’t you speak to his father about it and go from there. He has him the majority of the time, that’s obviously the first port of call, then a doctor. Maybe he is nervous at your house? Maybe he has a light on at home? Maybe it is physical? But it’s definitly time to investigate, never assume laziness unless all avenues have been exhausted.
A urologist once told me it is until about eight if boys are still night wetting thatbthey consider it an issue.

If it's a new thing for him, it could be a UTI - my son had a nasty one not long back that caused a bunch of other issues.. no burning when he peed, but diagnosed as a UTI. also, could he be constipated? That can cause bedwetting.
