My 18 year old son has always talked to himself in the shower, this year it has really amped up to how it normally is, it sounds like he is having a conversation with someone, he just left school last year and going through a lot of changes so it might be his way of destressing, I'm not too sure, should I be worried?

I talk to myself a lot
I like to rationalise things out. My partner says it’s like I’m having a full on conversation with someone
My dad does it too and my brother
Sounds like a bit of a way to debrief himself or perhaps a bit of a coping mechanism. If all else appears to be fine and he's aware of the conversations I wouldn't be overly concerned. I would only worry if he doesn't remember having the conversations or he doesn't appear to be conscious of them, along with erratic behavior.
My mum noticed I talk to myself, when I’m cooking I speak the entire recipe out loud and tell myself what I’m doing.
Is this is only sign of concern for you or is there further things?
I used to do this a lot in school and still do sometimes.
I replay conversations or rehearse how I’d like conversations to go and figure out how I’d reply to certain things.
I think it’s just my coping mechanism because I have a bit of social anxiety. Ive never actually had issues but I think it’s just a bit of an anxiety/stress thing
Me too...I am always having conversations in my head them sometimes I realise I’m having them out loud....and think......holy shit....did anyone hear.....
Have you asked him? Maybe a subtle hint could see if he reacts or maybe it’s totally nothing, like everyone people find a sense in talking aloud and I do it all the time and sometimes catch myself in the moment having a full on convo. Haha not sure when it first started tho..
I've always talked to myself. My husband talks to himself as well. I think for some people it's easier to make sense of things or create order when you say it out loud. If you're worried ask him about it.
