Precocious Puberty?

My nine year old daughter has just got her period. Is this normal? I was not this young!
I am heartbroken for her. She is still a baby. How do I help guide her? Has anyone else experience this. Thanks IMs x

My sister was 8, my cousin 9, a friend 9 and myself 10,

Being open and honest and letting her know it isn’t dirty or shameful. Also giving her pads to a female teacher rather than in her bag where someone can see :)

I work in a school. This is more common then you think to get periods this young.

I was 9 when I got mine in the 90s. Not that unusual.

Please don't sexulise her. Yes there are some facts of life she needs to know but she doesn't need to be anywhere near anything sexual. Protect her, this is a world turned upside down and she is still a baby.

Um what? Just because she got her period doesn't mean she will instantly become sexual..

You can’t be serious right? WTH did this comment even come from? No where in this did I read anything about sexualising this child 🤷‍♀️

Try not to allow your heart broken feelings to influence how you approach this, it's a normal part of life, tackle it head on in a positive way.
It won't take anything away from her innocence or her childhood unless you make a big deal out of it!
I know 9 seems young but it's normal and more common than you think. Explain it all to her, it's just a normal bodily function like anything else. Her periods will probably be sporadic for a while yet but she'll adjust either way!

Just take it all as it comes and prepare her for all the other bodily changes too!
