Vision and Hearing impairments in baby daughter

there are multiple parts to this.

We have just found out that our 9 week old daughter might have vision and hearing impairments. We are being urgently sent to a specialist to find out exactly what is going on.

Any parents out there that have gone through this? Any advice or where we can turn to for help/support?

No-one on either side of the family has this (aside from glasses but only for reading)

Also, any advice for my Husband? He is not taking the news very well (extremely upset, all he can do is cry and hold her). I'm going to get him to speak to our doctor.

We also have a 4 year old son. Any advice for him? We are very open, but explain things in an age appropriate way.

I am so sorry, how stressful being in the unknown.

Honestly, just ride it out and take each day as it comes. Go along with all the tests and results. Lean on family and friends for support, seek out social services via your maternal health nurse and just get discussing. They'll assist your husband and talk you through everyone.

ASK A MILLION QUESTIONS every appointment and specialist.

Remember the keyword is might :) and the technology in medicine now days means your daughter will have a very bright future, there's Cochlear ear plants and ways to help with vision. It's just a small bump in her very short life so far, but she'll have a very long and happy life! Look towards the future.

Just be honest with your son, let him know that his sister is struggling to hear everything you're telling her and sometimes can't see you all so she is going to the doctors who will do some tests. Take him along if need be and let him join in, even buy him a pair of glasses/sunnies and show him what they are and let him know his sister might need them to. Make it fun, do photos of them together with their glasses on etc.
