Wondering about "eat-play-sleep" routines... why is this recommended by tressilians etc? Has this worked for others? What routines have worked for your babies?Wanting to get bubs into a good routine asap (wishful thinking maybe!).

Honestly, I think routines for newborns just add extra pressure. I was told with my first baby "Routine. Routine. Routine" but I felt like I was trying to put a square peg into a round hole, it just didn't work.
Once I relaxed and just went with the flow, life was much easier.
Your bub may very well fall into their own routine, they may not just follow baby's lead and you'll be fine.
IMO it’s personal, if you aren’t a structured person, no point putting pressure on yourself to give your baby a lot of structure.
For me, I am a very routine person, so it was less stressful for me to have a routine or at least a flexible idea of one (because let’s face it, things don’t go exactly the same all the time), but I actually found that eat, sleep THEN play worked better for my babies. A big breast feed until milk drunk and dozing off with a full belly, a good nap and then up for play mat time or chatting and chooing together before the next feed. That always made more sense to me.
I agree. I could never do the eat play sleep routine. I tried so hard but it made things worse. In the end I did an eat sleep play routine and it worked well for both my kiddies!
There is no way this would have worked for my son. He was play-eat-sleep. Nothing I did changed it. He would wake up full of beans and nothing, absolutely nothing could make him interested in eating until he’d had some play time.
I wouldn’t worry about a routine at the start, see if bubs dictates a routine themselves.
Bloody loved it! Worked for me. My youngest is 15 now
