Has anyone done a diy balayage at home and had good results? Things are a bit tight and I just want to freshen up my hair.

Nooooo! Don't do it. I tried and it doesn't turn out the name as getting it done by a hairdresser.
I did, and was complimented by my hairdresser on the good job I did! 😂
Below is the technique I used:

Noooooooo, don’t do it. Just wait until you have the funds. In the mean time pick an easier colour that you can achieve easier at home.
Totally done it, will never do it again! It went orange, I toned with a great toner (not purple shampoo) turned out better but still brassy, waited a few weeks, dyed again with 20vol and bleach- left on for 35 minutes and damaged my hair (cotton candy hair)-$120 on Olaplex later and it’s better but not the same as it was and I’ve spent the same amount that I would have spent at a hairdressers but without the colour I wanted, and so much damage to my hair. Honestly better to go get it done by a professional and have piece of mind rather than end up out of pocket with brassy damaged hair.
