Is the child old enough to agree? My step dad was around from 2 and at 36 we've never got along.
My step father looked into for me. My dad was in the picture still, so he decided against it...didn’t want to rock the boat kind of thing. He didn’t mention I think to me until this year.
The solicitor told him at the time it means the father has to give up all parental rights willingly or be granted an unfit parent.
My step dad was also told that he would bear all financial costs in regards to me, even if my mum and him didn’t last, he would need to pay child support etc. that didn’t bother him, but he hated the fact my name wouldn’t change as he and my mum weren’t married...40 years later and they’re still not. Lol.
Step dad has been in the kids life's for almost 9 years now and they have had nothing to do with their bio dads. The kids are 9 and 10 and only consider step dad as their dad anyways. As oldest kids bd is in jail and the youngest kids bd is a deadbeat who only pays cs cause he has too and has tried that many times with csa to get out of paying it.
