Centrelink claims process - terminally ill

My dad is terminal with a rare blood cancer. He has been given weeks possibly months. I am prepared to take leave from my job to care for him in his final stages of life but my issue is the financial side of it all. I have been in contact with Centrelink and advised what to claim for however I submitted my claim today and it said the claims take 6-8 weeks to process. He may not be here in 6-8 weeks and there is no way I cannot not pay my rent for 6 weeks! I also have 2 young children and my partner works part time so not enough to cover our $500 a week rent. I realise we will be back paid but my real estate won’t cop no rent for 6 weeks, I’ll be evicted!
My question is, is there anyway to fast track this claim? My dad is dying and needs me but I can’t stop work yet because we can’t live off $600 per week.

Take out a credit credit card before you stop work. Centrelink is an absolute mess at the moment I dont know if theres a way I hope so but its probably easier to sort out a planb.

Check if your Dad has a super or insurance policy that may be paid out.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I have no advice on getting the payment through quicker but when my Dad passed suddenly, my Mum got a bereavement payment from centrelink for 13 weeks. It was such a help in her time of need.
Being his carer you should be entitled to it and might help in the weeks following.
Big hugs to you xx

Hi, sorry to hear your sad news.I was in the same situation but with my husband ask the hospital for a social worker and also ask Centrelink for one. My payment came in 2 weeks after I got my social workers.i was also back payed by them (Centrelink ) from the date I applied. In the mean time just call your bill providers and explain the situation I didn't have a single problem with anyone of them extending your payments. Most banks also have an consession Account with little or no fees.
