Vasectomy options

Vasectomy options

Hi IM’s

After some experiences with husbands/ partners who have had a vasectomy and whether they had local anaesthetic at a doctor or went under with a general? After pushing out his two huge headed children with minimal relief, I’d prefer to go the cheaper route at a doctors office but the idea of this terrifies him.

Thank you

Think of it this way - if you were giving birth and you desperately wanted an epidural and he said to you "I'd prefer you get the gas, it's cheaper" how would you feel?
I know it's not exactly the same thing but do you get what I'm saying?

I think it's a one off expense and more importantly it's his body - his choice! If he's not comfortable having the procedure under local, he should be given the option of having it under general. Also, men are big babies compared to us women. We produce and carry an entire human beings and deliver them to the world without much complaints but men are just dying when they have a cold haha 😂

I do totally understand the financial concerns on your part though, so absolutely no judgement given here!

I would probably be leaving the choice with him personally. All the best with it.

My husband had a vasectomy 4 yrs ago a few weeks after our youngest was born. Hubby was worried about the local aswell I said it was his choice and would support him which ever way he wanted to do it. He chose a full anaesthetic. I dropped him off at the hospital at 8 am and they where calling me at 11 to say he was ready to be picked up. He had 2 days off work and was fine to work after that. Just becareful during the 3 mths after surgery cos there is still swimmers in their. Hubby had a sperm count and he still had active sperm untill 6 mths after. No wonder when we where trying for a baby he just had to look at me and I was preggers

Do they even do vasectomy under general? My husband said it was nothing!

Yes. There are lots of fairly simple procedures that are offered to be done under general. Even the most basic of medical procedures can invoke panic and anxiety in patients which hampers the doctor's ability to perform said procedure efficiently.
There's no shame in going under the general nor the local, every one will have a different perspective on it.
Ultimately, the choice lies with him and what he's comfortable with.

This is one situation where what you’d prefer is irrelevant.

This is HIS medical procedure. He gets to decide how it happens or if it even happens at all. Your role here is to be supportive of his choices.

I think it’s fair to say I pushed the babies out so it’s your turn go get the snip (haha) but I think how it happens needs to be his choice !
I let hubby decide and he opted for in the chair . He said they numbed it all and let him play with his daddy gone for distraction . He said it was uncomfortable but bareable and he was only there for 1/2 hour and could walk out the door .
I also know guys who have gone under general to do it . They had to fast and be left n recovery until anasthetic wore off and then they could leave so it was a full day procedure .
Other recovery was much the same (a few days of slight discomfort and a little swelling ) and then they were all good .

My husband was knocked at the private hospital and was in extreme pain and on sick leave for 2 weeks afterwards. I think they're a lot rougher when you're knocked out

Go to a couple of consultations to see what different Doctors offer. My husband took the recommmendation of a friend, there was also a stubby holder, Freddo frog and a can of coke, jokes aside, he was confident after the first consultation and went ahead with the needle & scalpel free procedure. If you are interested in the recommendation see below.
