My 5 month old has the most terrible reflux. He’s 5 months old and been on Losec for just over 2 months. But it isn’t helping - he vomits so much! Have been back to the paediatrician and told him this, he said to just keep going with it, and I am probably just feeding him too much - but I’m not, I actually feed him the dose under what is recommended for his age.
I have to do a whole load of washing every few days JUST FOR BIBS!
I’m mix feeding, but the reflux was still bad when I was exclusively breastfeeding.
He’s tried numerous types of formula (Karicare, Mamia, Novalac), as well as S-26 AR formula, which didn’t help and also made him very constipated, and I’ve just started him on s-26 Lactose Free, just to see if it makes a difference. So far, no luck. He has just started solids, which I’m hoping will help, but it hasn’t yet.
Has anyone found a successful way to manage the vomiting? A particular formula that they held down better? We’ve been recently house hunting and on one inspection he vomited all over the carpet, it was awful. Very desperate for any advice that’s helped you and your Bub.

Discuss using a thickener in the milk to help keep it down :) bottle feeding upright rather than BF lying down. But the thickener is the most successful for us!
Thickener (it will also likely make him constipated) and also smaller frequent feeds. Foods like potato, sweet potato and rice may help too.
If you feel your pediatrician isn't taking your concerns seriously, or not willing to work with you, get a second opinion.
We were somewhat lucky that the first thing we tried with our pediatrician (Zantac) worked great for our kids. Unfortunately we are also the very rare cases that at 3, 5, & 9 years old, they still suffer reflux...
Starting solids def helped too. With the guidance of our pediatrician we started solids at 4 months old.
Reflux sucks. Sleepless nights suck. Constantly holding cranky babies sucks. Hang in there. It gets better eventually.
Reflux is a symptom of something else so it’s better to treat the problem rather than the symptom. The most common cause of reflux is dairy intolerance and that could explain why all the formulas aren’t helping. Soy and dairy usually go together with intolerances but you could try a goats milk formula and eliminating dairy from your diet while breastfeeding. A chiropractor could help too. Another cause of reflux could be oral ties, a good ibclc (international board certified lactation consultant) will be able to diagnose this. You can find one at lcanz.org
My second child had awful reflux, she screamed and vomited all day and just wanted to feed (she was breastfed) non stop as sucking relieved the pain but then she would be over full and reflux symptoms would be worse, it was horrible. I eliminated all dairy from my diet and took her to a chiropractor and the change was amazing!
Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you :)
2 of mine had silent reflux..very painful..zantac worked perfectly for them..spewy babies generally don't have the pain..just the smelly mess unfortunately...not sure if yours is in pain or not..they eventually grow out of it..thickening the formula can help..good luck!
My son used to “power chuck” every bottle, the entire contents. He was diagnosed with silent reflux.
After feeding him I kept him up right. If I couldn’t hold him over my shoulder I would put him old bouncer chair.
I Raised the top end of his cot, I put old bricks, one under each leg of the cot and also a pillow under the mattress. Any time I laid my son down he’d scream the house down before he vomited.
If this doesn’t help, go back to your ped. I had to as my son was losing so much weight. He was put onto a baby gaviscon, it took a few weeks to fully settle down and start putting weight back on.
You know your child best, if your ped won’t help find another!
Look into allergy possibilities
Solids helped my two heaps
Zantac helps the pain of the reflux and is best given a short while before having a bottle (if possible - it tastes awful)
Mine chucked so much but because they were thriving doctors didn’t really care for it.
One ended up on Lactose free diet which helped and the other dairy free
First is 4 and has no issues and is now having regular milk products and my second is 18 months old still working towards intro of milk
I think finding a great doctor is going to be key. I was dismissed a lot as first time Mother - and because she was thriving and making her milestones they thought I was delusional
Good luck
